Patience

"I'm tired," Mark said as he walked through our front door. He didn't have to say anything, I knew already by his uneven gate and his stooped shoulders. He was beyond tired. I turned the stove off and walked to the entry way to help him to his chair. It had been a long week and he needed to rest. Tired....

I have done a lot of research on the exhaustion associated with traumatic brain injury; how the injured brain can only handle so much stimulus and then it literally shuts…

Brain Exercise Computer Program: Head Strong Cognitive Fitness

Hi Everyone!  I spoke a little of Neuroplasticity and how it involves "repairing" brain neurons which were destroyed by our TBI accident.  I have been doing some research on Neutoplasticity and found a website which gives your brain various short-term memory exercises.....if you would like to try it then goto this site:  headstrongcognitive.com .   You can register as a "new user" and get approximately 2 months of a free trial.  I've done some of the "remembering Flags" exercise.  It does give… Continue

Brain Plasticity - Repairing our Damaged Brain

Brain Plasticity is something that I have been repeatedly thinking about.....and heck, I'm gonna do more research on it helping with TBI.  This is what I see so far.....Our brains have the ability to reconstruct connections to damaged neurons.....during which healthy/alive neurons in our brains "reconnect" with damaged neurons there "reenabling" our brain to relearn a function......anyway, below is the web address explainin "brain Plasticity" and how it can help improve our brains....What…

Walk for Thought Day, Minnesota

Hello all, Been quite awhile since I’ve posted anything here, so let me tell you what I’m doing now. Have become  a member of  the Brain Injury Association of Mn., and a member of the traumatic brain injury support group in the Golden Valley (Mn) Courage Center. I also attended a conference for the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) for their Patients & Families Care Center. An interesting conference to say the least: a full day where patients or family told HCMC staff concerning what…

The Use of a Cricket Phone to Remember Information due to short-term memory and TBI

Prior to myself utilizing a Mobile Phone like the Android, which I use now, I would keep notes, names, phone numbers, or just about anything I needed to remember-on note pads, regular sized pads and the smaller pads. By the end of my first year with TBI I probably had written enough notes to write a strange Adventure Novel. I would go into my home computer and do daily research on TBI, looking for any… Continue

Sex therapy

The aftermath of neurological damage is that the muscles on the inside of my legs have begun to atrophy. This affects my balance and walking abilities as well as my sex life. My husband and I opted to visit with a sex therapist to learn how to keep our private life alive. Among the most interesting things we learned were from instructional videos from the Harvard University. I found it amusing to learn that there is an entire department at Harvard devoted to studying sexual behaviors…

Dysautonomia..do u feel you live in a separate realm?

I'd like to know if anyone also has dysautonomia spells after their TBI. Most doctors/ therapist think it's a foggy symptom I'm describing, but actually I encountered a therapist who agrees with even MTBI dysautonomia can be present and sometimes a…See More
