Bright Sunny Days

It has become a pattern that I feel less pain in the summer weather. I sleep better in the warm weather. I move better in the warm weather. When I was at the neurologist she commented that all her TBI patients and a large number of other patients being treated for neurological diseases feel better in the spring and summer. How could temperature, humidity, and so on affect the nervous system? My doctor says there are too many factors involved in the season change to explain this phenomenon. Some… Continue

Life goes on...

Five years ago, our lives were forever changed. I think about that a lot. We woke up on the morning of September 15th with our normal routine. We were arguing over silly stuff, which basically dealt with logistics and planning. I was good at that, both from a family and in my career as a firefighter. We were a family, we made mistakes, we hurt each others feelings, we made up and lived life. Then, tragedy struck. We have been slowly putting the pieces back together.

It is easy to… Continue

I am a famous painter?

My painting is hanging on the wall in JDawgs, a local restaurant that serves approximately 20,000 BYU, Staff and locals a week. Picture in my painting is a fellow artist who is an employee, my family, Jason of JDawgs, and several BYU students and staff. All the figures are painted standing in line outside the original hot dog shack at the entrance to Brigham Young University. I included bright colors, painterly brushstrokes and thick texture to convey the cheerful atmosphere and energy of…

The Masqurade

Appearances can be deceiving….

Having to wear dark glasses in doors has its social stigma.  When I sit at the admitting desk at work, customers are generally put off by it.  I derive pleasure from those who wonder if I am blind and make gestures or stair to try to figure it out. In general most people assume that I have an attitude problem. So to overcome this negative image problem I try to wear hats, jewelry and exciting wigs. The funny part is I forget what I look like or…

What is going on with my blood labs??

Did anyone have changes in their blood chemistry after injury?  My prolcatin started to get high, my IGF went low and now my cholesterol is bad!! (I have always had perfect labs prior to injury)

I checked with 2 doctors to see if any of my medications could be causing this and the answer was no- they are clueless.. what is my brain doing?

Anyone else notice these kinds of changes? I would love to know...

I have spent this last few days wondering why

I have spent this last few days wondering why and if I can go on. I have no answers yet. I am profoundly lonely. My brain injury was undiagnosed for many years, and I struggled to make sense of why I was like this. I have trouble finding the boundary between the psychological effects of being undiagnosed and the brain injury itself. I tried for years the psychological, spiritual and nutritional/lifestyle strategies that I thought could be keys to my thriving in this world. I am nearing my…

Baddeck and Beyond

Trugging along in Baddeck by temporallobe at Garmin Connect - Details

I was having a bit of a rough run today. My ankles are hurting and I had a huge lack of energy. I kept on trucking and was at about the 3 hour mark and decided to take a minute and rest up at a Gas station in Wagmatsook. We pull in and Melissa is there so we can do a Skype chat with BrainTrust Canada annual…

getting sick n tired of the bullshit

i always thought life would be fun....friends and family and good times and barbeques and happy people...its just not like that anymore and honestly it really never was or could be like that because there is always someone having a rough go somewhere and thats really the lesson....u can only be up if someone else is down so either learn to live with that and accept it and become one of the two...either up or down and up usually means you have to hurt others its just the law of the land...and… Continue
