I worked as an assistant to a quadriplegic who was the general manager of a nonprofit. He taught me many things about disability and how to cope. The first was to be aware of how your physical appearance affected others. He could not use his hands but in meetings it is customary to shake hands. He would wear and large gold watch on his wrist to help people to move past his shriveled hand and have something to compliment him on when they were asked to shake his hand. The gold watch made…

Feels like my brain is in the blender again. Too much input, too little filter, brains in the blender. Have a manual labor job in a stock room - I cut open cases and unpack and sort the contents. I am pretty fast at that, but it is rote work and very simple. My supervisor, bless her heart, tried to train me on a new position Friday. It involved a tremendous amount of rapid-fire verbal instruction (very detailed) and no written "cheat sheet" to refer to when processing the various items…

I have been going to the doctor long enough now that I feel less like a patient and more like a test subject. It is strange that with all the TBI patients out there that my doctors would be more informed on the subject and not seem like they are stabbing around in the dark. Below are some of the tests and treatments I have received over the pasted three years relating to my TBI.
I wonder if you have had some of the same?
Functional MRI 2
EEG 3
Nerve…

Treadmill run
It stopped about 6 minutes into my run. So I had to reset it and start again. Very confusing for me because I forget how far I have run and need the reminders. It all worked out and I got 30 min run on the treadmill. Blisters still hurting but tomorrow I should be back to a 4 hour run per day. Just trying to figure out how to stop getting…

So why is it that a man I have been with for 3.5 yrs has no compassion? I am so tired of the attitude of "if you give me sex I will do this for you" Im sorry- but I thought the deal was we were together for each other? not for my.. parts so to speak. SO let the door slamming begin- my injury has left me quite different than my girlfriend Siva- her moods are like a rollercoaster where I actually feel nothing.. maybe this dead inside thing will go away.. but now here I am - injured, confused…

Florescent lights have become a constant irritant in my life since my TBI. The constant flicker undetectable by others can bring on headaches and eventually seizure. This is the reason I wear sunglasses in doors and after dark.( The sun shines on the cool 24-7) So naturally I was excited to find out that I could request alternative lighting at work. After completing the application process and a healthy waiting period, the day came that my “accommodative services” were delivered. Here is the…

My story and how I am being treated by my former employer: I have a head injury..
I am/was a critical care paramedic here in Florida. I was in the back of the ambulance going code emergency (fast) with my patient when we had an accident and my head was rotated not only forward but also backwards and side to side when I felt a pop and couldn’t move my right arm or my neck. I felt pain deep inside my neck. I…
