Why is Department of Social Services threatening their Clients with lies?

My name is Craig Sears and I am a survivor of a Traumatic Brain Injury TBI. The US says we have rights; but the State's trample all over them as if they are immune to our constitutional rights. Here is an example of how the Department of Social Services DSS tries to pull one over on us. I've been a participant in the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Waiver Program for several years in Connecticut every year around June or July I have an Annual Review! State Team Meeting to reevaluate me to see if…See More

Profile Information

I am a brain injury Survivor, Family/Caregiver or professional
Survivor
What do you find most difficult living with a brain injury
I suffered my Traumatic Brain Injury in 1987. In the years that followed there was little knowledge on Traumatic Brain Injury in the medical field and even less in the public. As a result, my physical injuries were confused with intoxication or drug abuse and my brain injury misdiagnosed as mental illness. I was falsely arrested and institutionalized time and time again.

Today more awareness has occurred, but there is still much to learn!

Some states place services for individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury under Developmental Disabilities or under Mental Health Services. Traumatic Brain Injury is separate and distinct from developmental and mental health diagnoses. Individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental health issues may suffer a Traumatic Brain Injury. However, not all individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury have developmental or mental health issues. Finally, challenges and interventions implemented with survivors of Traumatic Brain Injury may be very different from those implemented with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental-health diagnoses and a dual-diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injury and developmental disabilities and/or mental health issues.

Hey Craig-

Thanks for your reply.....I really cannot figure out why you haven't written a book.  What you write on this site is a clear indication of your intelligence and capabilities you have to articulate your words.  You are a truly amazing individual that is an inspiration to all of us.  Rock on for all the causes you have given your voice to.  I support all that you are doing...especially for children.  It is an absolute blessing to know who you are and to know your story.  God Bless you and please keep up the positive good work you have done and will continue to do.  You have left an indelible mark on this world.  Take Care.  Kerry

Wanna know something that is really sad and discouraging.....I started out as a volunteer at the VA here in Florida.....Even there I ended up resigning after a year as people were extremely intolerant.  I have such a heart for our soldiers and I miss them dearly.  It was the one job that I had where I felt normal, but ended up having to resign as a result of my brain injury.  Just a bit frustrating.  My accident was from being hit by a driver that had no insurance....I survived, but he went on living his life....I forgive him.  If he only knew the real damage that he has done.....

Wondering out loud

All cases are different in what is wrong and how it is best dealt with. But i wonder if anyone has a thought on making themselves better internally. Is it possible after brain injury to evolve and just step back into life. Is it just mind over matter to accomplish such things. My case is bad in that i have no memory of recovery process or how i came to this stage but im here. Memory issues and social anxiety are the real issues. See More
