Hi Mykaya, I have a question for you. You say that you weren't diagnosed with your brain injury for 8 or 9 years, and that it hadn't even crossed your mind until then? I am curious about what you did to get a diagnoses, and if you were involved in an incident 9 years ago that you now realize caused the TBI. I am asking because I got my TBI in a rollover car accident. My friend was driving when we were t boned at an intersection and we both went out the windshield. I landed on my right side and had many fractures in my skull, required a pressure monitor to be placed in my skull, was in a coma, etc. So my TBI was obvious. My friend on the other hand broke her pelvis, had a collapsed lung, fractured her face from forehead to chin among other injuries. She was never evaluated for having a brain injury, which seems so bizarre to me! She didn't have health insurance at the time of the accident, and is now on our state's funded insurance which only covers what they consider necessary medical costs. So she can't just go to a neurologist and say "hey, I think I injured my brain" and pay out of pocket. What actions did you take to get the medical attention you needed for the diagnoses? Thanks for your time, I appreciate any advice you have.

Hi Mykaya,
My tbi was 5 years ago and it has been a hard road. My memory is still good; but my motivation has deminished greatly. I try to voice my opinion to others with tbi when I can. We all have to look for what makes a rewarding life for us as we are still our own person with feelings.
