How "Social" are You?

Last week, I received a second e-mail from my daughter’s teacher that she is being too social in class.  Too social?  What does that look like?  According to the teacher, my daughter sometimes doesn’t pay attention in class because she is being social with her classmates.  She makes new friends no matter where the teacher moves her in the classroom seating arrangement.  While many times this is good, it could lead…

Can You Hear Me Now and Smell That, Too?

Last month, I talked about how routines can be bad for you.  Continuing on with the subject of Neurobics, can you name the two senses that we use most (Jeopardy theme music enters here)?  That’s right ~ the senses that we use most are vision and hearing.  If you close your eyes and try to navigate through a room, what do you find?  You sense of touch becomes most important.  Even though you many have been in this room a million times, not being able to see now…

Routines Can Be Bad for You?

What?  How can a routine being bad for you?   I mean, with routines, I get more done in the day,  know what to expect, experience less stress, and I’m comfortable with knowing what the outcome is likely to be when I’m done.  But is this “healthy”?  In some respects, yes, since it may produce less stress and anxiety.  But on the other hand, having…

Keep Your Brain Alive – Neurobics to help prevent memory loss and increase mental fitness

Neurobics? What’s that? Never heard of it before now. Neurobics is an exercise program to help you maintain a continuing level of mental Fitness, strength, and flexibility as you get older. This program calls for “presenting the brain with non-routine or unexpected experiences using various combinations of your physical senses – vision, smell, taste, touch, and hearing – as well as your emotional ‘sense’.” In other words, Neurobics activates different areas of the brain and makes the… Continue

Darcy Keith,

I do not know exactly if this message relates to the above or not but here is my message.  I'm a survivor for the past 32 years & have recently been involved in the Subliminal Audio approach for TBI & have greatly improved my situation with Right Front Brain Tissue Loss which has included 3 audios, one the Memory & Concentration Power Subliminal Audio which has restored my short-term Memory Loss (10 months duration) & has provided me about 5-6x's additional Concentration ability...  First, the Subconscious Mind has to be re re-programmed initially BEFORE any new external positive changes are created.  #2 & #3 audios are Speed Thinking & Mental Alertness & IQ Genius Intelligence are now in progress.  Any questions- please hit me back. Scott

Hi, Darcy.

When I read your last tip re: fish oil and brain health, I could so relate to the conflict of knowing how good it is for you and how awful fish oil can smell and taste.  i think that I tried evry kind, and the taste kept coming back up for hours regardless of what the labels said.  Then I discovered krill oil.  You might want to consider  trying it - it is supposed to be more bioavailable that fish oil, but still porvides omega 3's, etc. - plus the capsules are much smaller, which is a real plus for my since I have some difficulties swallowing.  Everyone's systems are different, but I have tolerated it well and feel that I have benefittedfrom it - plus a number of the other supplements prescribed for me by a doctor from Dr. Amen's clinic here in Bellevue, WA.  Nourishing our brains is so key to being able to heal and function as well as possible with a TBi, and appraently an undernourished brain prior to a tbi can make you more vulnerable.  We can't do anything about the past, but it's nice to have things that we can do now and in the future to support oru brains and body!  Thank you for the reminders re: junk food too... and for all of the other information that you provide.  Take care! ~ Kathie
