Exasperating

The most exasperating thing of all is having people tell you that you mis- heard, mis- read, and didn't see it correctly. In police and crime prevention training you learn to never dis- credit somebody for the way they heard, saw or translated anything. It's psychology each account/person/story/translation is viable.See More

What do you find most difficult living with a brain injury
The saddest thing is when you call for disability services and you are told we do not know how to class your disability. Is it MS, MD, MG, Polio, Bipolar, Paralysis, Retardation, Aspergers, Autism, because those are the disabilities we cover. Its a very misunderstood disabling injury, we need to bring more awareness to it.

Good to be back....

What it has been at least two and a half years since I last posted here.

The divorce from a terrible abusive marriage and a terrible custody battle has and is still really awfully hard. I am still dealing with it. I have been all over the state of Washington seeking help for myself, and nobody wants to take my case, because one i have been made to be a conflict of interest, I cannot afford any help etc. I am not getting any accommodations for my disability and have been told that I…

Differentiating between mind and body.

Now that I am not a young kid anymore, other things that effect the mind is starting to take place. For example the change of life. Menopause and the hormonal changes. How to tell the difference if you are dealing with the changes and emotions of menopause, or if you are dealing with the emotions of TBI. How do you explain the difference to your friends and loved ones, how do you help them to deal with it? Most of the times when you cannot explain it leads to solitude. I hate solitude, and as… Continue

Knowing Bethany

Growing up with TBI, my parents thought that I would not be able to do anything. So they held me back somewhat, instead of encouraging me. I was never a popular kid, being tortured on a daily basis by my peers, coming home crying, with bubble gum stuck in my hair, and dealing with this disability and being a hormonal teenager was very difficult. I never thought I was going to amount to anything at all. To this day, I struggle with the feelings that my mother and father should've just put me in… Continue

Bethany,    interesting  ...  You  have  allot  on  your  mind... first of  all   I  could  not  handle  Silverwood,,  to  much  noise,  and   "traffic",   to  busy...I  personally  do  not  mind  being  with   those  with   physical   "problems"   ,   even  though  my   tbi  is  quite  "gentle"  so  to  speak.... I  like  to   associate  with   anyone   with   problems,  as  I  know   understand  them   better,   and  admire  what  they   do...  I   ski   on   "Big  Mountain"  (Whitefish)    on  the  dream  ski  program,    so   I  am  with     handicapped  kids    all  day.....   they  have developed   this  program  which  I  get  to  participate  in   because   a   different  part  of  my  body  was   damaged.....   Each   brain  injury  is  different  but   yet   similiar,  in  the  fact  that  our   wiring  is    messed  up.....   I   appreciated  what  you  wrote  and  it  is  good  to  get  it  out...  it  is  good  to  share.....  I  look   forward  to   getting  messages  from  you....  Your  videos  are   great... Bethany, what I stated on my Mom's behalf is simple, maybe you or some one you know, would follow through on behalf of all the TBI's are stuck and not aware that the Brain Injury Association of WA, is not the way to go for any TBI unless they want to be lead through their lives, by professionals that do not believe people with TBI's can and do have support groups. Craig has the way, and he can help all TBI's find a good group, and even show you how to start a new group to reach other groups. Our Mom had a dream, only two things got in her way the Brain Injury Association of WA Spokane Chapter , the have a Board that is made up of mainly professional's, and they do not encourage TBI's. the other was her failing health. Our Mom, Gloria wanted to start a new group up by Northtown mall, Craig knows about her dream, now we just need a leader to start out. Thanks Anie

HI BETHANY; OUT OF 7 YEARS EXPERIENCE JUST BETWEEN YOU AND ME, RUN DO NOT WALK WHEN YOU EVEN CONSIDER THE BRAIN INJURY ASSOCIATION OF SPOKANE OR WA STATE. YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT THAT SUPPORT GROUP IS VERY TRUE. THE SAD THING IS WE FINALLY GOT A GOOD FACILITATOR, BUT THE BOARD COULD NOT HANDLE THE FACT THE FACILITATOR AND CO FACILITATOR BOTH HAD BRAIN INJURIES. HOW COULD THEY EVEN RELATE, HOW WOULD THEY BEABLE TO BRING IN EDUCATION AND NEW PEOPLE, AND GROW IN FELLOW SUPPORT GROUP MEMBERS, BUT THE TWO OF THEM DID, AND THE MORE THEY DID AND THE MORE THEY GREW AS A GROUP OF tbi'S WORKING TOGETHER, EDUCATING, AND SOCIALIZING, THE MORE CONTROLING THE BOARD BECAME, EVEN WHEN IT CAME TO GRANT MONIES GIVEN TO THE SUPPORT GROUPS ALL THREE THAT THEY HAD, SO THE BOARD MOVED IN AND BASHED PEOPLES GOOD NAME, AND REPLACED THEM WITH PAID FROM SUPPORT GROUP MONEY GRANTS TO HEAD UP THE SUPPORT GROUPS, USING TBI'S AS PAWNS FOR THE SHOW. TBI'S CAN DO ALOT, WE HAVE TERRIFIC ABILITIES, AND ARE VERY DIVERSE, AND NOT ASHAMED. CRAIG SICILIA STARTED ANOTHER TYPE OF SUPPORT GROUP AS HE WAS MOVING AWAY FROM THE BRAIN INJURY ASSOC. OF SPOKANE, IT IS A GOOD GROUP WITH TBI'S AND IT'S RUN BY TBI'S, THE ONLY PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE THAT ATTEND ARE INVITED BY THE TBI'S.
CRAIG USE TO WORK WITH MY MOM, BEFORE SHE BECAME VERY ILL, HER DREAM WAS TO START UP ANOTHER SUPPORT GROUP IN NORTH SPOKANE WITH THE BOOK CRAIG GOT FROM HIS STUDIES WITH ANOTHER GUY VERY INTERESTED IN TBI'S HELPING EACH OTHER. CONTACT CRAIG, AND HELP HIM REMEMBER THE GOAL HE AND MY MOM HAD, AND MAYBE YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE COULD STEP IN AND HELP MY MOM'S DREAM FOR THOSE LEFT BEHIND AT ST LUKES BRAIN INJURY ASSOC. SUPPORT GROUP, AND SHOW THEM THERE IS A BETTER WAY, AND A WAY TBI'S CAN FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEM SELVES, BY HELPING AND BEING ACTIVE IN SETTING UP THEIR OWN SUPPORT GROUP IN THE NORTH SPOKANE AREA, CRAIG KNOWS WHERE, AND THE PLACE HE KNOWS, IS STILL OPEN TO THE PLAN HE AND MY MOM HAD.
MY BEST TO YOU AND ALL OF US WITH TBI'S, I GOT MINE IN MY HIGH SCHOOL YEAR, IT WAS LABLED MILD TBI, BUT A TBI IS A TBI, AND WE CAN STILL BE PRODUCTIVE, AS MY MOM TAUGHT ALL 4 OF HER OWN KIDS AND THE 12 THAT HAVE PASSED THROUGH OUR HOME THAT SHE HELPED NO QUESTIONS ASKED. EVERYBODY HAS A DISABILITY SHE'D SAY THEY JUST DON'T KNOW IT.
ANIE~
