Hello Agnes Buskirk, how are you doing today in Finland? My first name is Maureen but I am usually called Moe by my husband and friend's, so feel free to call me Moe Agnes OK? Tell me a little bit about Finland, what other Countries or island's is it? I am origionally from New York City, I was born in Manhatten which is a wonderful place to visit. I have lived in Florida which is on the East Coast of the USA like New York City but it is alot warmer down here and it hasn't had snow here. I was in a bad motorcycle accident back in February 1999, it is 10 year's now since I have had TBI. I lost my speach and memory and was injured badly because we were on the bike on the Interstate and a car stopped in front of us when the traffic was going about 60 miles an hour. There was a little hill and I don't know why he stopped but he did so my husband knew we would both be killed if we hit the back of the car which Kevin said was just a few feet ahead of us on the bike so he tried to keep the bike up while going around this car but the bike went down and I flew away about 30 ft. I was told. I was told I bounced off of the wheel of a car, might have hit another car but whatever happened I was told I had a 1 % chance of living. Thank God I was able to go to BIRCH for therapy after I came out of a coma I was for a couple of week's. My husband stayed with the bike, he was injured but he hurt his back and neck badly but didn't treat them injuries right away, he stayed by me and our daughter who needed him badly. My daughter was only 11 back then so it was terrible for her to have to see me in the shape I was. When I did get into BIRCH, that was in another hospital and it was the day before my birthday so I started doing great when I arrived at the Brain Injury Rehab Center. That was March 18th I remember, the day before my birthday and I was going to be 42 year's old. I am going to be 52 this coming March 19, 2009 and now I can walk, talk and I do drive sometime's but I don't drive on very crowded street's or at certain time's of the day. Well, I don't remember the exact date that I came home from BIRCH but it was in the end of April so I went 3 time's a week for rehab from home for awhile after that. The Harley we were on only had a bent crash bar and scrape's on the handlebar and some other place's but we took the injury. Kevin sold that bike and bought a 2000 Softtail, customized it to the way he loved to and this is an amazing thing!!! Kevin received a phone call in 2001 that he was the February WINNER of HARLY DAVIDSON'S yearly BIKE WINNER OF 2001 !!!!!! Over 1,000,000,000 it was really about 900,000 more but I can't remember the right number. Kevin got that phone call and he didn't believe her on the phone, he thought it was someont kidding. Then he received a letter in the mail from Harley Davidson and then he started getting nervous and still didn't believe that he would have won a brand new 2001 FATBOY!!! He said he wouldn't believe it until he had the key's in his hand and was sitting on the bike. We alway's went to the same Harley Store and so did alot of other's, it was a nice hangout. It was called Gator's Harley Davidson in Lake County in Florida and yes we have too many alligator's in Florida! Anyway, that is still amazing. Kevin did pick up the HD FATBOY when it came in and it was in the Monthly Harley Davidson Motorcycle Magazine. The bike look's so cool now after modifying it to our personal look's. We rode or well, I rode almost everyday until about 2005 then my injuries that weren't fixed after the accident in 1999 stopped me from riding as much as Kevin could. I guess from 2006 I couldn't ride as much. I just had my neck surgery in December 15, 2008 and Kevin is going to have his back surgery as soon as I am healed enough so I can take care of him while he heal's like he is doing now while I heal from my neck surgery. Well, I know this is like a book, I wish I knew how to send it to everyone that is in the TBISurviver's Room or anyone else that is disabled from a different type of injury so they can read this and hopefully they will love this amazing story. It is so strange how we came so close to death because of a car on the Interstate while we were going to the 1st day of Bike Week in 1999 and the car kept on going, but then to WIN a Brand New Harley Davidson a year later. God was with us for sure! BELIEVE IN A BETTER FUTURE AND IT WILL GET BETTER!!!!!! Your New Buddy, MOE
