My name is Marie-Terese Henderson. I have been the Chairperson of the Central Florida Brain Injury Support Group formally the Orlando Brain Injury Support Group since 2007 & traumatic brain injury survivor of 19 years. We are traumatic brain injury support group that meet once a month for socialization, educational speakers and to share community resources.

We promote brain injury survivors to be proactive in their recovery. We provide resources to choose from in hopes of a successful positive productive result for our community and to reflect the benefits we as brain injury survivors have to offer. We concentrate on what we “Can Do”. Together our voices echo forward with love and peace for all. Together we can each build a strong link I the chain of brain injury recovery through friendship and support.

Our duty is to fulfill the needs of the Brain Injury Survivors. We are Brain Injury Survivor driven and self supported through our own contributions and individual donations.  Brain Injury Survivors have the opportunity to support one another in a safe environment of empathy and understanding, where difficulties and emotions can be discussed freely without judgment and new friendships can be forged. This is where individual needs and compensation strategies can be shared because it is often from others in like situations that the best solutions to problems can be found.

It is important to Build Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Awareness for the 210,000 people that live with the long term challenges due to a TBI who call Florida home. This include children and 62% of veterans who face a life time living in the TBI world.

Marti, I am Maureen and like you all of my family left me too.  I am looking now for a place to live.  I don't know where you live but I don't have transportation where I live, that is Minneola, Clermont area so I haven't been able to get to a meeting Downtown Orlando.  As far as your joining this Group, I believe you just have! I hope to see you here again, if I find it again hehe.  Maureen

It's been 6 1/2 years since my accident that left me with a TBI and neck injury. I am completely exhauseted from trying to do this on my own. I have tried so hard to get my family and friends to help, even though they all walked away a long time ago. Have been hanging on to that they will eventually get it if I show them doctors reports, get them to go to doctors appointments with me, help me manage my medications etc... It's time for me to except what is and join a support group and be around a family that can love, except and lift me up and encourage me. Would love to be a member of this group, I will need transportation being I don't have a vehicle and doctors don't want me driving anyway. Seizure free for two years, but turning my spinal cord only causes more damage to my neck and back. Look forward to meeting each and every one of you. What do I need to do to join this group?

Hello Everyone:
I am a survivor of a major TBI. Years after the accident, I just wrote and published a book called, "My Miracle". You can see it on http://SharingMiracles.net, Barnes&Noble.com (and in stores), and other websites.

"My Miracle" is all about before, during, after, and up to this point in my life since my major TBI, coma, and eventually relearning everything all over again when I was 21. This book is very inspiring, educational, gives hope and understanding (about life, TBI's, God), has picture's, and so MUCH MORE... People have already mailed the book and a letter to major TV show's. I hope you can see and read this book, BUT I PRAY IT BRINGS YOU COMFORT.

I am also a native to Central Florida!!! Take care and BE SAFE.

Happy New Year 2010
My goals for 2010 are:
Get a tape recorder to be able to tape my conversations with others to be able to become aware of my tone and communication style.

Pay more attention to social networking sites

Become a better listener. concentrate on what the person is trying to communicate to me and then concentrate on my response and consider all the consequences.

To keep my thoughts positive, structured, and uplifting. Learn forgiveness and be happy. All the rest I give it to our Lord.

Thank You Everyone for being you. Let's make it another great year!

My nephew got me a oversized coffee cup that says Crazy Cat Lady. Needless to say our animals can be a great part of the brain injury recovery process. How many of you have pets?

Hi everyone. Thanks MT for developing a local website for us!
My name is Susan and I am just a Mom who had the misfortune 2 1/2 yrs ago of being in my mom-mobile, stopped behind a Lynx bus taking on pax, when a speeding bus behind me seemingly forgot to stop. Don't remember a thing. But that's how I became a TBIS. The dog in the photo I am currently using online, was my husband's initial response to my TBI diagnosis. He didn't quite understand all of this and was frightened and also in a bit of denial...so he immediately went to the shelter and found this HUGE Great Pyrenees to "help me recover"..instead of a seeing eye dog, my spouse was thinking in terms of a TBI-dog?... LOL. The first time I took Rueben for a walk, he naturally had to do his business (poop) and it was like watching the pyramids of Giza being built before my eyes. I just stood there and cried...I had no way to pick up the pile as I had forgotten to bring any doggie bags with me...that scenario became the analogy for my current TBI life as I saw it..lots of you know what and no way to handle it...sigh....since then, Rueben and I have bonded and he has truly come to represent my crazy journey towards weaving a new life w/ TBI. That's my story...still trying to find my way....love that we all have each other to help navigate the TBI maze...
Looking forward to meeting all of you at some point in the future. :) Susan
