I noticed that June 30th is Brain Injury Global Picnic day. If I can rustle up some timekeepers for the event, perhaps we'll join the world record-breaking (hopefully) most picnickers in 24 hours. We do have our annual summer BIRRDsong picnic on Saturday, June 30th! BIRRDSong is Brain-injury Information Referral and Resource Development, a non-profit, peer-led brain injury recovery organization.

If you're in the Portland area, please come join us.

Saturday, June 30th

10:00-1:00pm

Laurelhurst Park, Picnic Area B, Portland, OR (SE 35th Ave and SE Oak)

It's a potluck. Bring something prepared at home to share and celebrate summer with us. All are welcome!!

Yes, Arthur, it is in ORegon... LOL  It is so confusing sometimes isn't it?

Part of my own Brain Memory Power Loss, is places.  The three years prior to my injury, we moved twice.  Once across country (from Atlanta to the Bay Area-San Francisco) and then from the Bay to Hockinson, WA (teennnny tiny place).  After really thinking HARD about why I kept getting so LOST (like, um... end of the line lost with no way OUT), I realized that I was getting all three places mixed UP, and my old home towns as well (I had traveled there at least 4 times in the 3 years).  Sometimes, if we can 'backtrack' we can figure out WHERE these confusing thoughts come from.  NOw, if I could just find my way HOME!  LOL  Thank goodness my GPS works fairly well (though not perfect).

Have a good day!  We had our picnic over in Western WA on the 16th.  It was great.

Hi folks,

I'm so sorry to confuse you. Yes, Portland, Oregon. I'm getting better about not getting lost as often. But I do tend to forget to really explain the details all the time. I forgot that there are people on this website who might not be familiar with where I happen to live! Thanks for pointing it out.

I'm really glad the Western WA picnic was great!

Hi Cheryl!

Oh my gosh, tell me about it.  My life sometimes seems as clear as day, to ME, then I think I leave an awful lot of people 'swimming in mud' with my ideas or thoughts.

I came to the BirrdSong group several years ago, but the drive from my home was just too much at the time.  Have a great time at your picnic!

hope you guys had fun

Tucker Family Reunion

This Tucker Family Reunion was in May 2013, and was the first time I've reunited with most of this side of my family since the wedding in 2007.

Emotional Impact of Returning To My Maiden Name

I was Angela Betancourt for less than a year before my husband was killed in the car accident where I sustained the TBI.  I was a widow with his name for much longer than we were married, for the past five years.  On the last day of the Tucker family reunion, I announced that I'm legally returning to my maiden name.  Angela Leigh Tucker, who was born in Alabama.  Friends and family ask how it feels.  Truthfully, I feel freed from the daily reminder of what I lost.  Of who I lost.  I embrace my…See More
