Ok, so the short of it-drunk driver hits me and beats the rap. Im left with a TBI, alienating friends/family, a separation, loss of a 6 figure income, depression/anxiety(sound familiar?), debts, and some post accident memories of behaviour thats hard to accept.
I need to know what it is everyone else is doing to cope aside from medicating-is there a mantra, a book, some higher power stuff?? anything at this point is appreciated, even if its something small, or big, or extreme
Thankyou
Nico

All I know is that we are all extremely intelligent and articulate....not to mention extremely humorous. This TBI life is crazy and invisible, but do we all really have to be invisible? I started reading this by Nico and got down to Kimmy. The frustration we all experience and the loss of purpose seems to be a prevalent theme for all of us. We can all make eachother laugh on the right day of course. Maybe it is just me, but some of this stuff is so unbelievable it is laughable.
The worst part is that it never seems to stop at just a TBI...It's all the stuff that starts to appear down the road. For example, I was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease. Funny how the pituitary gland just possibly could have been damaged too as it is a major part of the brain. What is going on with us?? Then comes the frustration...it's like a whirlwind. Kerry

Permalink Reply by BARB GEORGE on May 26, 2012 at 12:14pm Nico, I get everything you have said and more. it is HARD. But I think what others are saying here is that it IS do-able. It isn't simple... Most of us who HAVE a 6 figure income, lived at that level! Well, duh, when it is gone that sort of slops the entire world into a whole new place... It sends it all topsy turvy.
When someone has an injury like this--and any time the 'brain' is involved, people (normies) can seem to feel like we are dumb. We are slower, we read and speak slower... but we are NOT dumb. We have things to offer...
I am glad you are a part of this group. Most of us would not wish this life on anyone else, but there are lessons to be learned from each and every one of us. We are here because we are strong, and we can (yes we can) handle it.
Hugs,

There are some grand people out there who have written and are in the midst of writing great books. Check em out! One I ALWAYS suggest is only out in used and in Kindle form at this point, but try to find it--"I'll Carry The Fork" by Kara Swanson is an amazing book. Not only did Kara have a high energy and high income job, and was 'tossed' by the hospital NOT diagnosed of her brain injury, but she is funny and thoughtful as well--the other cool thing is at the end of each paragraph is a section from 'Team Kara' the team of folks who ARE doctors and therapists who write about the healing Kara went through.
Yes, she is a FRIEND, but no I don't get any paybacks :) It is full of simple and useful ideas for LIFE.
